Dien Xian Er, Singapore

I have to apologise for the loooooooonnnnnnggggggg disappearance. I have actually uploaded these pictures a long time ago but was just too lazy to blog about it. Then, when I was finally ready to do it, I dropped my brand new phone into a bucket of water and that had killed ALL mood to do anything and blogging was defnitely the LAST thing on my mind. Sigh.......have been having a run of bad luck (also due to my own stupidity and clumsiness) lately so I just have no mood for a lot of things.

Anyway, am back again and hopefully I will be more consistent this time round! I took a trip down to Singapore last month for a few days to spend quality time with my sister and nephews. I have also managed to catch up with a few of my old school mates from high school so it was quite a good trip overall.

Oh, again I have to apologise. I have no descriptions for the pictures here because all the details were in my "swimming" phone. I can only tell you that if you ever were in Singapore, this is a good place to eat. They have quite a number of branches around Singapore, not just in Vivo City. You can always check out their website here to see where to go.

Restoran Ho Weng Kee @ SS2

Yau Kai (steamed chicken in oyster sauce)

Sui kow (dumplings)

char siew wonton mee

curry mee

This wonton mee shop has been here for as long as I could remember and my family has always been a big fan. Noodles are fragnant and springy, steamed chicken is super smooth and char siew is roasted to perfection. Think we used to come here at least once a month. Now, I am not sure because my taste buds have changed or that their standards have dropped. The chicken is still smooth but I prefer the ones in Soo Kee. The char siew is only ok and a little too lean for my taste. I think the sui kow is still very good and not "tou kong kam lew" (cheating on ingredients). Both my dad and my sis still love the curry mee. I supposed it is still relatively good as lunch time is packed full with people and there are always people waiting. But for me, I think this will be a place that I will only come if my friends or family wanna go and not, "Hmmm.......I am craving for Ho Weng Kee, let's go!" kind of situation.

Restoran Tian Tian Lai @ Pudu

Steamed egg with minced meat

Fried Prawns in Wok

Nam Yu Ribs

Fried Brinjal (eggplant) with minced meat

Spininch in Superior Broth

Steamed herbal chicken

My friends and I love to go to this restaurant in Pudu for dinner. The famous "must order" dish here is the steamed eggs....heh.....actually, every time when we come here, we almost always order the exact dishes. As this place is in prime traffic jam area, we don't really come as often as we would like to. Anyway, it was a friend's birthday and she has decided to treat us here.

I have to say, Sunday is not really a good day to come for dinner at all. Firstly, car park space is ultra limited and with the sunday crowd, it is like winning the lottery when we actually found a parking space! Secondly, there are just too many people for dinner. Even though my friend has reserved two tables, we still have to wait for one table and half hour for the other table! Thirdly, which was the worst, is the food is not nice as we usually have. I seriously think it is because of the overwhelming crowd that the kitchen tends to compromise a little bit. Usually, the dishes are excellent and we just couldn't get enough of it but this time round, I have to say it is not quite as perfect. Oh, don't get me wrong, food is still good but compared to the usual times that we had it, it is just not as satisfying. I guess I need to go back again soon to rectify this dissatisfaction!

Reunion Chinese Restaurant

Siew yoke

Spinich in superior broth

Fragnant Vegetable Tofu

Cantonese Fried Koey Teow

Took a friend to the Reunion Chinese Restaurant for her birthday but poor girl was not feeling that well. Have wanted to order porridge but they did not have it so we just ordered a few simple dishes of vegetables and tofu. Heh.....the siew yoke and cantonese fried koey teow were more for the greedy friends rather than the birthday girl. Usually, if you come to Reunion, you HAVE to order the hokkien fried noodles because it is one of the best! Super oily but so tasty that you need to have it! As I was saying, it is super oily so did not think it is a good idea to order it this time coz I did not think any of our tummys could take it (we have not been feeling all that well the past few days).

Have to say, everything that we ordered was really tasty even though it was so simple. Reunion does have its standard when it comes to their food. Only problem is, it does not come cheap. Total bill for the above four dishes plus tea comes up to about RM115. Good tasting food does not come cheap sometimes!

Oriental Cravings Restaurant

Memories from the good old days

Every time when I go to One Utama Shopping Centre, there are only a very selected few of restaurants that I will go to for makan even though they have tons to offer. But there is one particular restaurant that is almost at the top of my "go to" list whenever I am there; which is the Oriental Cravings Restaurant located on the ground floor in the new wing.

My sister and I love to come here for their noodles because we think that the noodles here are springy, fresh and delicious! If we have a few more people, I love to order the dishes with rice! The bad thing about this place is, they only have square tables so we have to join the tables to make a long rectangle one. A bit inconvenient when you order dishes to share and tables are not very big as well so it was a bit "kalang kaput" when we were eating.

Bak Kut Teh

This is the herbal BKT and I think quite a few people are not really a fan of it as they prefer the klang version. Personally, I think it is very delicious as the herbs are very fragnant. Heh....but I like all kinds of BKT, including the Singapore style! So, only order it if you like herbal bkt.

Golden Beancurd

I love the Golden Beancurd here as the beancurd is super smooth and with the saltiness of the minced pork, the combination is perfect! Even though there is a little bit of spicy taste to it because of the chilli in there, the kids still could not get enough of it! The only complaint is that the portion is not very big so you will have to order two portions if you have more than four people in order to get a good, satisfying piece of it!

Hainanese Assam Fish

I do not know why it is called the Hainanese Assam Fish since assam is assam right? The assam sauce is absolutely delicious. It is is so tasty that I can have rice with just the sauce. Heh...the fish is tasty too but the main draw is the sauce.....sourish and spicy at just the right amount....yum..... I am not even a fan of assam so you can imagine how good it is when I can slurp it all up!

pork with soya sauce

This was the special of the day and the waitress was recommending it so we decided to try it because we heard "fa lam yok" (I think it's pork loin with fats). The meat was marinated and cooked till perfection. Not too salty and meat was uber tender........I only managed to try one piece because it was gone so fast, damn! Oh, they have different specials everyday so it depends on your luck if you wanna order this when you go there.

Honey Chicken Wings

I just realised that I forgot to take a photo of our veggies but then, that was rather standard so picture or no picture, I don't think it made a lot of difference loh. We decided to order the honey chicken wings for the kids.....heh......so called for the kids, everyone has one and it was all gone already so kids could not have more even if they want to! The sauce is quite sweet so very good if you want your kid to eat his chicken, if you know what I mean. My nephews hate veggies and my sister will always make them eat at least some, no matter how unwilling they are. One of my nephews actually dipped his veggies in the honey chicken wings sauce to make the veggies more appealing. I guess anything goes when you want your kid to take their greens......

Longan with sea coconut

The longan with sea coconut has a very refreshing taste and not too sweet, very good and "cooling" in our extremely hot weather. Was super stuffed after eating all the yummilicious dishes, will be quite contended for a while until the next time!

Extra Super Tanker Chinese Restaurant

It was my mum's birthday on sunday and we were scratching our heads on where to go for celebration. Then my sister decided to book Extra Super Tanker at Damansara Kim. I have only been there once and that was a long time ago.....

Crispy Skin of the Peking Duck

Sis has pre-ordered the Peking Duck here so it was a good surprise for me (as if it's my birthday *LOL*) because like I said before, I LOVE Peking Duck. =P I love it when the servers bring the duck out and slowly cut the skin in front of us but over here, due to the tight space and crowded tables; they actually cut in the kitchen first before serving it to us on a plate. Somehow, that did not feel as exciting........but, what to do? As usual, the skin is excellent coupled with the thin slices of popiah skin....yum.....just the thought of it is making me salivate again..........=P

Sang Choy Pau

Sang Choy Pau is usually cooked with minced meat but over here, they used crab meat instead. Taste is quite light and at RM30 a plate, it is quite a good bargain because there is quite a lot of crab meat in there. Hmmm......maybe more worth it than to just order crabs (the one with shells), the only setback is, you can only have it this style(no chilli, marmite or salted eggs). =P

Mixed Vegs with Tofu

The tofu is really soft and smooth and the sauce is full of flavour, fantastic with rice!

Herbal Pork Ribs with Pig's Stomache

In the specials whiteboard outside the restaurant, we saw a dish called "sun kei tou guat"; literally meaning "Amazing stomache bone". My dad and I were rather intrigued with it so decided to order it. Turned out to be exactly like herbal chicken except it is with pig's stomache and pork ribs. I thought the dish was rather delicious but at RM50 a pot, it is a little pricey for just ribs and stomache. Still, another good dish to go with the white, fragnant, steamed rice.

Sou Mien

All Peking Duck dishes come with another dish of your choice using the meat. This time, we have ordered the sou mien (birthday noodles) since it is for our mother's birthday. The noodles were really tasty and springy but we thought the duck meat was a little dry. We feel that there is a lot more meat than noodles as there was not enough noodles to go around. Hmmm......but it could also be due to the fact that we liked the noodles more than the duck meat itself so maybe we actually ate more noodles.......I donno........

Salted Egg Squid

Before the noodles came, sis and I felt that we were still hungry and there were not enough food so decided to order the salted egg squid. Talk about greedy........squid actually came after the noodles and we were rather stuffed by then. Luckily, the squid was rather crispy and tasty so we could still managed to stuff it down our throats even though we felt like we were gonna explode any time soon (greedy, greedy, greedy......).

Chocolate Cake with Cheese Frosting

Bought a cake from Just Heavenly for the candle blowing. I had originally wanted to bake but really had no time so had to spend some moolah. Heh.......I guess we were not really gonna explode after the squid since we could STILL eat the cake. *blush* Chocolate cake was really moist and the cheese did not overpower the cake, quite a good combination!

Restoran Perlama Seafood

Friend took me to this seafood restaurant in Klang.......wah.......talk about godforsaken place. If you ask me how to get there, I probably cannot answer you. I only know that it is at the North Port and it is near the jetty. The place is rather simple but packed with lots of people! It has quite a number of fans all over the restaurant so was rather nice and cool.

Huge pot of seafood porridge

absolutely delicious and fragnant

This place is famous for bak kut teh and seafood but by the time we got there, the bak kut teh was all sold out so I did not the chance to try it. Apparently you can call and order it so they can hold the bkt for you. We thought we could make it early enough without calling to book but apparently not......

Had ordered a small seafood porridge with prawns, fish and squid but turned out to be rather big serving (Only RM20 for such a huge pot). This is not the usual thick cantonese style porridge but more of the hokkien version where the porridge is a little bit thinnner. Heh.....it was really delicious so we walloped the whole pot! =P

Kai Lan Miew (RM8)

Our attempt at the fibre intake, turned out to be quite a good choice as the taste was just right.

Steamed egg with prawns

Steamed Pomfret Teochew Style

The prawns (RM24) and pomfret (RM30) was super fresh and cooked just right! You can really tell how fresh it is by the sweetness of it. I would really love to try the other dishes as well but there were only two of us and there is only so much that we can eat (which I know is a lot from the photos but still......).

Cheap, yummy and fresh........definitely need to come back again. Hopefully the next time we go there, there will be more people joining so we can order and try the other dishes.

Canton Fare Restaurant

The Chinese Decor

Bird Cages

I have heard about Canton Fare for quite some time but never really got the chance to come and try this place until my friend suggested to come here for dinner. Place was rather crowded when we got there but luckily there was ONE table empty. If not, then we have to think about where to go again and we HATE deciding where to go for makan........you know, so much good food around, how to decide????

Succulent Peking Duck

Beautiful Omelette wrapped around the crispy skin with spring oions

More crispy skin on prawn crackers

Canton Fare was running a promo of Peking Duck (RM48++, usual price is RM68++) and I LOVVVVEEEE Peking Duck! Ooooooo.........the crispy skin of the duck dipped in sweet hoisin sauce and wrapped with the omelette skin.............yummmmm..........

The drumsticks of the Peking Duck

Sang Choi Pau

As you all know, when you order Peking Duck; you get another dish of your choice with the meat. You can have it fried with noodles, rice, on its own and.....er.......actually I donno what else. We ordered the Sang Choi Pau, which basically is the meat cut into cubes, fried and then you wrapped it with lettuce. I did not think the chef did a very a good job with this because it was rather dry. Oh ya, we made them chop out the drumsticks of the duck which turned out to be a pretty good idea. Firstly, like I said, the fried dish turned out to be quite dry. Secondly, we realised that we actually get more meat out of the duck this way. Heh.....talk about kiasu......=P

Lotus Roots fried with Assorted Nuts and Vegetable

We ordered the Lotus Roots fried with Assorted Nuts and Vegetable for our choice of fibre instead of the usual greens. I thought it looked rather sad when the dish arrived and I was feeling a little bit suspicious about it. True enough, the dish was dry and tasted a bit bland. Think the nuts were a bit stale too. Sigh.....bad choice......

Twin mix

I loved the char siew that they served, a bit fatty but it is just bursting with flavor! As for the siew yoke, the skin is very crispy but I thought it was too fatty for my taste. Hmmmm......sounds a bit contradicting right? Char siew is a bit fatty but I love it and siew yoke is too fatty? I thought it was a bit strange too...........maybe I am more biased towards char siew?
