Dave's Pizza Pasta Vino @ 1-Utama

Long time no blog!!!! Actually, I was gonna give up on this because as I have mentioned many many times before, my vocab is super limited and I'm terrible at this! Anyway, was mentioning this to my friend the other day and he actually encouraged me to continue. You know, to practise my writing for the very fact that, because I sucked at it. So, here I am again. I thought since I do not use my brain any more, this is one avenue that I can TRY to "oil" my brain. Probably will take me a long time to write something that is worth reading, at least it is a start. In the meantime, guess you all will have to endure my nonsensical writing.....hmmm.....is there such a word or is it wrong spelling? Anyway, if not, you people can just look at the photos.....er......yes yes, photos are also kinda crappy. Aiyah, make do lah!

Was supposed to meet up some friends for a girl's birthday the other night and the birthday girl could not make it in the end. Heh......so the few of us celebrated her birthday without her. Hahaha.....so called celebrate lah, it is JUST dinner afterall. Friend decided to go to Dave's in 1-U because she thought it was quite nice the last time when she was there. I have to say, this place has been opened for the longest time ever in 1-U but it has never occured to me to sample the food here, don't ask me why.

Baby back Ribs

Pizza with Streaky Bacon!

There are two sections to the restaurant. On one side, there is the usual wine and dine restarant with nice tables and chairs. On the other, they have a beer garden which kinda feel like a market if you have a rowdy crowd. Ok, maybe not rowdy.....more like the "super happy" people after a few drinks and tend to talk and laugh super loudly because they are SO afraid that people cannot hear how much fun they are having, if you know what I mean. Anyway, over at this side, there is a long bar, cheapo looking tables and chairs and a band playing. Er.....I donno if the band plays every night. So, as you can tell, with the band playing, it will be even noisier. It is like going to two totally different places even though it is ONE restaurant.

Service here is not bad as the waiters kept asking me one hundred and one million times if he can take my order while I was waiting for my friends. I know it can be a bit annoying sometimes but it is better than trying a million years to get their atteniton right? Anyway, the three of us ordered a Ceasar Salad (with Bacon!!!), the Baby Back Ribs and a pizza (with more streaky bacon!!!!) to share. The Ceasar Salad was rather tasty and what wouldn't when it is with bacon, right? ; P Oh ya, as usual, I forgot to take the photo until it was too late. The Baby Back Ribs was only okay. Friends commented that it was a bit dry, I just thought it has no kick. I have to say, I have been to SOOOOOO many porky places in KL and I still can't find one that makes it as good as Tony Roma's in Singapore. Also, I don't think I have been to any restaurant that serves bacon with pizza so this was my first. It was utterly delicious as once again, the streaky bacon has done its job in adding its awesome flavour into a dish!

Dien Xian Er, Singapore

I have to apologise for the loooooooonnnnnnggggggg disappearance. I have actually uploaded these pictures a long time ago but was just too lazy to blog about it. Then, when I was finally ready to do it, I dropped my brand new phone into a bucket of water and that had killed ALL mood to do anything and blogging was defnitely the LAST thing on my mind. Sigh.......have been having a run of bad luck (also due to my own stupidity and clumsiness) lately so I just have no mood for a lot of things.

Anyway, am back again and hopefully I will be more consistent this time round! I took a trip down to Singapore last month for a few days to spend quality time with my sister and nephews. I have also managed to catch up with a few of my old school mates from high school so it was quite a good trip overall.

Oh, again I have to apologise. I have no descriptions for the pictures here because all the details were in my "swimming" phone. I can only tell you that if you ever were in Singapore, this is a good place to eat. They have quite a number of branches around Singapore, not just in Vivo City. You can always check out their website here to see where to go.

Restoran Ho Weng Kee @ SS2

Yau Kai (steamed chicken in oyster sauce)

Sui kow (dumplings)

char siew wonton mee

curry mee

This wonton mee shop has been here for as long as I could remember and my family has always been a big fan. Noodles are fragnant and springy, steamed chicken is super smooth and char siew is roasted to perfection. Think we used to come here at least once a month. Now, I am not sure because my taste buds have changed or that their standards have dropped. The chicken is still smooth but I prefer the ones in Soo Kee. The char siew is only ok and a little too lean for my taste. I think the sui kow is still very good and not "tou kong kam lew" (cheating on ingredients). Both my dad and my sis still love the curry mee. I supposed it is still relatively good as lunch time is packed full with people and there are always people waiting. But for me, I think this will be a place that I will only come if my friends or family wanna go and not, "Hmmm.......I am craving for Ho Weng Kee, let's go!" kind of situation.

Restoran Tian Tian Lai @ Pudu

Steamed egg with minced meat

Fried Prawns in Wok

Nam Yu Ribs

Fried Brinjal (eggplant) with minced meat

Spininch in Superior Broth

Steamed herbal chicken

My friends and I love to go to this restaurant in Pudu for dinner. The famous "must order" dish here is the steamed eggs....heh.....actually, every time when we come here, we almost always order the exact dishes. As this place is in prime traffic jam area, we don't really come as often as we would like to. Anyway, it was a friend's birthday and she has decided to treat us here.

I have to say, Sunday is not really a good day to come for dinner at all. Firstly, car park space is ultra limited and with the sunday crowd, it is like winning the lottery when we actually found a parking space! Secondly, there are just too many people for dinner. Even though my friend has reserved two tables, we still have to wait for one table and half hour for the other table! Thirdly, which was the worst, is the food is not nice as we usually have. I seriously think it is because of the overwhelming crowd that the kitchen tends to compromise a little bit. Usually, the dishes are excellent and we just couldn't get enough of it but this time round, I have to say it is not quite as perfect. Oh, don't get me wrong, food is still good but compared to the usual times that we had it, it is just not as satisfying. I guess I need to go back again soon to rectify this dissatisfaction!

KTZ Desserts

Mango loh loh

Peanut butter tong sui, Black Glutinous Rice and Wheat Porridge (mak chok)

Sister has wanted to go for loh loh (sago desserts) after her plans fell through so I followed coz I have not had the loh loh for a very long time. In fact, I do not think I have ever been to the SS2 branch. Used to go to Kepong when it was just a shack, now that they have like three to four branches in klang valley. Anyway, all the tong sui was good. The mango loh loh was not too sweet so it was great. Only thing is, I think there is just too much ice on top. For people who are not into mangoes, there are other fruits available as well.

Place was rather crowded in the afternoon and people were just queueing up for tables. Other than desserts, this place serves snacks and noodles as well and it seemed to be quite popular with the patrons too. My nephews ordered the century egg with mince meat porridge and I thought it was rather tasty but portion is really small, sort of like the kind that you ordered for dim sum. Think I shall go back and try the snacks the next time.

Reunion Chinese Restaurant

Siew yoke

Spinich in superior broth

Fragnant Vegetable Tofu

Cantonese Fried Koey Teow

Took a friend to the Reunion Chinese Restaurant for her birthday but poor girl was not feeling that well. Have wanted to order porridge but they did not have it so we just ordered a few simple dishes of vegetables and tofu. Heh.....the siew yoke and cantonese fried koey teow were more for the greedy friends rather than the birthday girl. Usually, if you come to Reunion, you HAVE to order the hokkien fried noodles because it is one of the best! Super oily but so tasty that you need to have it! As I was saying, it is super oily so did not think it is a good idea to order it this time coz I did not think any of our tummys could take it (we have not been feeling all that well the past few days).

Have to say, everything that we ordered was really tasty even though it was so simple. Reunion does have its standard when it comes to their food. Only problem is, it does not come cheap. Total bill for the above four dishes plus tea comes up to about RM115. Good tasting food does not come cheap sometimes!

Oriental Cravings Restaurant

Memories from the good old days

Every time when I go to One Utama Shopping Centre, there are only a very selected few of restaurants that I will go to for makan even though they have tons to offer. But there is one particular restaurant that is almost at the top of my "go to" list whenever I am there; which is the Oriental Cravings Restaurant located on the ground floor in the new wing.

My sister and I love to come here for their noodles because we think that the noodles here are springy, fresh and delicious! If we have a few more people, I love to order the dishes with rice! The bad thing about this place is, they only have square tables so we have to join the tables to make a long rectangle one. A bit inconvenient when you order dishes to share and tables are not very big as well so it was a bit "kalang kaput" when we were eating.

Bak Kut Teh

This is the herbal BKT and I think quite a few people are not really a fan of it as they prefer the klang version. Personally, I think it is very delicious as the herbs are very fragnant. Heh....but I like all kinds of BKT, including the Singapore style! So, only order it if you like herbal bkt.

Golden Beancurd

I love the Golden Beancurd here as the beancurd is super smooth and with the saltiness of the minced pork, the combination is perfect! Even though there is a little bit of spicy taste to it because of the chilli in there, the kids still could not get enough of it! The only complaint is that the portion is not very big so you will have to order two portions if you have more than four people in order to get a good, satisfying piece of it!

Hainanese Assam Fish

I do not know why it is called the Hainanese Assam Fish since assam is assam right? The assam sauce is absolutely delicious. It is is so tasty that I can have rice with just the sauce. Heh...the fish is tasty too but the main draw is the sauce.....sourish and spicy at just the right amount....yum..... I am not even a fan of assam so you can imagine how good it is when I can slurp it all up!

pork with soya sauce

This was the special of the day and the waitress was recommending it so we decided to try it because we heard "fa lam yok" (I think it's pork loin with fats). The meat was marinated and cooked till perfection. Not too salty and meat was uber tender........I only managed to try one piece because it was gone so fast, damn! Oh, they have different specials everyday so it depends on your luck if you wanna order this when you go there.

Honey Chicken Wings

I just realised that I forgot to take a photo of our veggies but then, that was rather standard so picture or no picture, I don't think it made a lot of difference loh. We decided to order the honey chicken wings for the kids.....heh......so called for the kids, everyone has one and it was all gone already so kids could not have more even if they want to! The sauce is quite sweet so very good if you want your kid to eat his chicken, if you know what I mean. My nephews hate veggies and my sister will always make them eat at least some, no matter how unwilling they are. One of my nephews actually dipped his veggies in the honey chicken wings sauce to make the veggies more appealing. I guess anything goes when you want your kid to take their greens......

Longan with sea coconut

The longan with sea coconut has a very refreshing taste and not too sweet, very good and "cooling" in our extremely hot weather. Was super stuffed after eating all the yummilicious dishes, will be quite contended for a while until the next time!

Soo Kee Ipoh Hor Fan Restaurant

My eldest sister is a HUGE fan of Soo Kee Ipoh Hor Fan in Sea Park. Everytime she comes back to KL, she HAS to go there for at least a meal or two; depending on the duration of her stay. So, as usual, she wanted to go there for her fix of Ipoh hor fan and I tagged along happily with her, my nephews and my mom.

yau kai (literal translation: oily chicken)

I think the steamed chicken aka yau kai here is the main reason why people come to this restaurant. The chicken is super smooth and coupled with their home made oyster sauce, aiyoh........heaven! The boys could not get enough of it!

plain mee

Ipoh hor fan

I have been to Soo Kee quite a number of times but I have never tried their noodles before. This time, the boys ordered a plate each and I finally got a chance to sample it. The noodles are quite fragnant, exactly how I like it for wan tan mee. But, again.....decisions decisions, as much as I love the noodles; I love the silky smooth hor fan too, how?!?! Oh, I have to say the portion of the hor fan has shrunk quite significantly this time round. I actually thought that I have imagined it.....you know......like maybe my appetitie has grown tremendously so the portion seemed so much smaller. But no, my sister agreed with me too so maybe..........I can have the ipoh hor fan AND then the noodles the next time. Hahaha...........talk about super greedy. =P

We have also ordered a bowl of wan tans. The wan tans here are quite delicious and you can actually tasted the individual prawn in each wan tan. It comes together with the soup that taste full of MSG but you just cannot help yourself and still finish everything, including the MSG-laden soup!

All in all, food here is fantastic but for a coffeeshop; it does not come cheap. We ordered a bowl of wan tans, one plate of chicken, three noodles, two hor fans and three drinks and it set us back about RM57......definitely not cheap for a coffeeshop.

Ming Kee Bak Kut Teh, Old Town PJ

I usually go to Heng Kee for bkt as my friend loves to go there but my other friend prefers Ming Kee (apparently they are siblings). So, this time round......I went to Ming Kee with my friend. Over here, the bkt is not your usual claypot style. It comes in bowls with a herbal taste so if you like the herbal ones, you will definitely like this!

Bermuda & Onion

My friends have wanted to go B&O for desserts because as they proclaimed, "B&O has the best chocolate ice cream in town!" So, off we went.

Chocolate Fondant with ice cream

I do not know why this is called the chocolate fondant but it is absolutely delicious! The chocolate sauce just oozed out after you cut it.......yum........and the cake is soft and moist, perfect!

Banana Spilt

We ordered the banana spilt with ALL three scoops of chocolate ice cream. It was rather surprising that they actually allowed us to change all the flavours to just chocolate as some places just refused to. Anyway, I donno about the "Best chocolate ice cream in town" but the chocolate ice cream here is really good. It is rather bittersweet, something that I like. Come to think of it, the Haagen Dazs Belgian chocolate is quite similar to that too. Check it out and tell me what you think.

I have always wanted to come check out B&O since they opened but never really got the chance. I guess I will have to come back again to try out their mains.

Soo Kee's Son (Meng Chuan) Restaurant

Met up with a couple of friends in town for dinner the other night and was wondering where to go for cheap food. Friend decided to go Soo kee's Son in Imbi since we have not been there for a while. I thought it was a great idea because I have been craving for the beef hor fun over there for some time too. =P

Beef Hor Fun

The super smooth hor fun with tender pieces of beef added with the fragnant spring onions and ginger, this dish is fried to the perfection. I can never get enough of this!

Hokkien Fried Noodles

This is my first time ordering the hokkien fried noodles here. The taste is good with all the super size chu yau zak (fried pork lard).

Cantonese Fried Yee Mee with Prawns

We usually order the cantonese seafood fried ying yang but my friend wanted to have the yee mee with prawns so we ordered that instead. The taste is still good because it is the same egg sauce that is smooth and full of flavour. Still, I prefer the ying yang to the yee mee.

This place is famous for beef noodles and sang har mee but like everywhere else, the sang har mee is uber expensive. I have tried it a couple of times but I thought it was only okay (donno what's the hype about). But that's just me, apparently a LOT of people think it's damn good so be prepared to pay the price if you wanna try this dish.

Meng Kee Char Siew

My friend and I love to come to Meng Kee in Tengkat Tong Shin for char siew. This place used to be packed by twelve in the afternoon and you usually have to wait for a little while to get a table, even if it is to "tupp toi" (share table). But this time round, even at 1pm, the place was not full. I have to say the standard here has dropped quite a bit. We ordered half lean, half fat for the char siew and it came ALL lean.....ewww......char siew so lean, where got nice???? Even the chicken looked a bit sad.......and this place used to be SOOOOO good......sigh.....wonder what happened to them. I guess I need to find a new place to have my "melt-in-the-mouth" char siew already.......
